Whenever I am asked for location ideas for family beach photos in Jacksonville, I always mention the rolling hills of Guana State Park. There is a small parking fee but the beach is generally less crowded and there are no homes on the beach. The lack of homes makes me think I’m on my own private beach. The park rangers close the parking lot right before the sun sets. Anyways, these photos were taken in the spring in Florida. It was right when everything was warm but not scalding hot in Florida.
So, after I get my own family photos I look at them time and time again. Well, here’s a little something about me. I look at the photos I take again and again. Every person I photograph leaves a little mark on my heart. I just love looking at the happy memories that were created in our short time together. I won’t even tell you how many time’s I’ve looked at these photos. If you want to talk about your photos after I would be happy to talk about them and to remember all the giggles that happened. It truly makes me happy to see the beauty of family.
On to this beautiful family, this mom does everything perfectly. I knew that she would be perfectly on time, and prepared with snacks, toys, and change of clothes for the kids. She chose perfect outfits for everyone. The kids clothes were from Carters. The eyelet dress adds great texture and detail. The hat for the little man was the perfect beach accessory. It’s too hot to layer so hats, jewelry, belts, and hair bows are great additions.
ADVICE FOR FAMILY PHOTOS
One final note, the one piece of advice I like to give parents at family pictures is to smile through everything. It’s hard to do- I know! It’s my job to work with the kids- parents just smile. We ran, we played and we got wet. The parents were the best and did smile through it all. I think these family photos have the perfect mix of the sweet quiet interactions along with the playful joyful images.
So, what would you like in the background of your beach photos homes, a pier, rolling hills, sand dunes, boardwalks or just water?
This in home newborn session took place in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Newborns grow so quickly in the first few weeks so it is awesome to photograph them when they are little and cuddly. This little guy completes their family. What a wonderful feeling to know your family is perfectly completed.
Every time I photograph in someone’s home I am honored the family allows me into their private living space. It’s wonderful and I get to learn so much about the family. I was warmly greeted at the door by the dad and toddler.
Once I entered the home, to the left was a shadowbox with photos of their home under construction and first house key. I was told it was a house warming gift. What a great idea. To the right was a table filled with lots of photos of their family through the years. I can’t help it but I loved looking at all the old photos and learning some of the stories behind them.
Then I got to meet the mom and the handsome new addition. This newborn came a little early. The family looked great – they chose navy with a pop of red. The nursery is nautical themed so the photos will complement the room perfectly. The nursery was really cool. They showed me their oldest son’s name written in nautical flags on the wall. They were going to do the same with the new baby.
First, we photographed the entire family and then got all the photos with the two brothers. The big brother was energetic, playful, and so loving. After he was done with photos he went to play at a friend’s house. Then we were able to focus on mom, dad, and baby.
Both of the boys’ names start with the letter “H”. The mom looked beautiful and wore a necklace with the letter “H” on it. A newborn snuggled up close to mom’s heart is one of my favorite photos to capture.
I always count on needing to take a break to feed a newborn during a session. Holding the baby in different positions is a work out for the little guy so we stopped and he got fed. Then we finished up our session. It was fun to catch a smile and yawn on camera. They were such a pleasant family to be around.
To see more of this cute family continue after the jump.
This family session took place in their own backyard and home. I love doing in-home family sessions. There is something so special to have photos from your own refuge- your home. There is a little nature preserve right in their backyard that is beautiful and has awesome textures from the vines and leaves. Due to the age of the baby it was decided she would be happiest in the morning. The session started later than originally planned on a bright sunny day so the goal was to find shade. The kids were awesome and so loving. Anytime I said group hug they were so quick to pile on top of each other to give hugs and kisses.
Mom has a BFA in photography (aside being incredibly flattered to do their family photos) so the goal of this session was to include her in as many of the photos as possible. She’s normally the one behind the camera and not in the photos. She looked stunning and was a natural in front of the camera. While looking through the photos, I noticed mom remained poised and smiled through all the photos. Even while her three kids were being busy she just smiled through it all. She said, “well I figured if I was at least smiling you would have one less person to worry about.” So true! I need to remember that when I am getting my own photo taken. Just smile through everything else that is going on.
Mom works for Yountique and a real go-getter. She and her husband took the family on a big road trip just a few weeks after their third was born. They center their lives around their family and I love it. As I look at these photos I can’t help but smile at the love they have for each other. Families like this always inspire me to be more loving towards my own.
