These family pictures were taken in Atlantic Beach, Florida. This cute mom’s family lives right near the beach (close enough that she could show me their homes right before we took pictures). She literally grew up going to this very beach. She always wanted family photos at the pier in Atlantic Beach. She talked about four different backgrounds at the beach that were special to her. She said the boardwalk/bridge were special because her cousin got married there previously. She said the sand dunes, the pier and of course the water. This has become one of my own personal go to spots for photos and to play at.
Could you be able to tell these photos were taken in the fall/winter in Florida? The weather here is fairly mild but there can be cool nights. There was a slight chill in the air and the water was quite cold. The girls opted not to be in the water for many photos.
I mentioned I wasn’t sure how I would get couple photographs because of the baby. The grandfather came to the photo-session just to hold the baby for a couple of minutes at the beginning. This family also brought a little bouncer so the baby would have somewhere warm to sit while he waited his turn to be in pictures. He was bundled up. Yes, I know the families I photograph are prepared.
Another great thing about these family pictures is it was there first time getting family photos done!

This in home newborn session took place in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Newborns grow so quickly in the first few weeks so it is awesome to photograph them when they are little and cuddly. This little guy completes their family. What a wonderful feeling to know your family is perfectly completed.
Every time I photograph in someone’s home I am honored the family allows me into their private living space. It’s wonderful and I get to learn so much about the family. I was warmly greeted at the door by the dad and toddler.
Once I entered the home, to the left was a shadowbox with photos of their home under construction and first house key. I was told it was a house warming gift. What a great idea. To the right was a table filled with lots of photos of their family through the years. I can’t help it but I loved looking at all the old photos and learning some of the stories behind them.
Then I got to meet the mom and the handsome new addition. This newborn came a little early. The family looked great – they chose navy with a pop of red. The nursery is nautical themed so the photos will complement the room perfectly. The nursery was really cool. They showed me their oldest son’s name written in nautical flags on the wall. They were going to do the same with the new baby.
First, we photographed the entire family and then got all the photos with the two brothers. The big brother was energetic, playful, and so loving. After he was done with photos he went to play at a friend’s house. Then we were able to focus on mom, dad, and baby.
Both of the boys’ names start with the letter “H”. The mom looked beautiful and wore a necklace with the letter “H” on it. A newborn snuggled up close to mom’s heart is one of my favorite photos to capture.
I always count on needing to take a break to feed a newborn during a session. Holding the baby in different positions is a work out for the little guy so we stopped and he got fed. Then we finished up our session. It was fun to catch a smile and yawn on camera. They were such a pleasant family to be around.

This family session took place in their own backyard and home. I love doing in-home family sessions. There is something so special to have photos from your own refuge- your home. There is a little nature preserve right in their backyard that is beautiful and has awesome textures from the vines and leaves. Due to the age of the baby it was decided she would be happiest in the morning. The session started later than originally planned on a bright sunny day so the goal was to find shade. The kids were awesome and so loving. Anytime I said group hug they were so quick to pile on top of each other to give hugs and kisses.
Mom has a BFA in photography (aside being incredibly flattered to do their family photos) so the goal of this session was to include her in as many of the photos as possible. She’s normally the one behind the camera and not in the photos. She looked stunning and was a natural in front of the camera. While looking through the photos, I noticed mom remained poised and smiled through all the photos. Even while her three kids were being busy she just smiled through it all. She said, “well I figured if I was at least smiling you would have one less person to worry about.” So true! I need to remember that when I am getting my own photo taken. Just smile through everything else that is going on.
Mom works for Yountique and a real go-getter. She and her husband took the family on a big road trip just a few weeks after their third was born. They center their lives around their family and I love it. As I look at these photos I can’t help but smile at the love they have for each other. Families like this always inspire me to be more loving towards my own.
