These family portraits were taken at the college campus of Texas Tech. The light was so different compared to this anniversary session and these graduation photos. I loved comparing the images because aside from the people, clothing, photographer the light can also make pictures look so different. Some of my favorite images from this session are of the little girl. She had sooo much fun running through this corridor. I think the light and shadows make her look dynamite. Three is such a fun age and I think her fun personality is showcased. You might remember her and this family from their lifestyle ice cream photo-session.
When I was talking to the mom about family pictures. She told me she wanted portraits. Then I started whispering and hinting at some lifestyle elements like reading with your kids and eating ice cream. She said they had never done lifestyle type of photos before so she loved the idea. In order not to overload the kids the ice cream session was a separate day. Everyone looked fantastic and mom made all of the girls headbands/bows. She is the owner of Mae & Jane. Isn’t the baby just darling? She’s nine months old in these photos. I know these sisters will be best friends. I think all parents can relate to the excitement books bring to their kids. They are so eager to learn. I think it’s so wonderful to capture the every day things you do with your kids. The family brought their daughter’s blanket and current favorite books- it made those pictures extra special.

This family complemented the beautiful poppy and larkspur fields. These were taken at the Lubbock Arboretum. Doesn’t mom look fabulous? She is just a month postpartum. The darling baby is wearing a homemade headband. Mom is also the successful owner of this photography business. It was a privilege to photograph a photographer’s family. The little boy was so fun. He did such a great job following directions but as common with his age group a mover. So, I had him run, jump, show me muscles to keep him engaged. They were so kind, gracious and wonderful to spend an evening with.

This birth story was the most incredible thing I have ever photographed. I was truly honored to have been allowed to be present through such a personal and sacred experience. I loved witnessing the teamwork between this husband and wife to bring this little guy into the world. Would you allow a photographer in the room with you while your child was being born? While I was chatting with dad before hand I thanked him for allowing me in the room. He told me that it took the pressure off of him. He didn’t have to be responsible for getting photos and he could just be present in the moment. I quickly looked around and I didn’t see a camera he just had his phone. He took a few photos so that they could be texted to family right away but mostly he was just focused on his beautiful wife and baby. I had never thought how a birth photographer could relieve family members from their duties. I thought it was a great point and was so happy to be of service to this family.
Since I knew quite a bit of ahead of time I was photographing a birth. I was able to read lots of tutorials on Clickin Moms about birth photography and view many birth photographer’s blogs. Thank you for this opportunity to photograph your little man.
